Growing up in the South of England, Halloween was not a thing. But now I am an adult with a functioning Amazon account and even some bonus kids to use as a front for getting dressed up, it’s most definitely a thing, especially as the compound where we live in Dubai really goes for it on October 31 - we’re talking Hollywood-worthy film set situations in garages.
Last year, 2017, was the first time we pulled a family effort, with Andrew as some form of generic Jedi knight, me as Leia, Leo as Rey, Fox as Darth Vader and Kit as Yoda. This year, 2018, we had Harper, our gorgeous King Charles Cav puppy to add in the mix. Nope she was not escaping the ignominy of a polyester costume with inflatable accessories.
The kids love the ride at the Motiongate theme park in Dubai, so I figured a team of Ghostbusters would be fun, although this decision was primarily based on the discovery that you can get a puppy costume. Winning. Honestly the hardest thing about fright night is trying to get a photo with everyone looking vaguely in the direction of the camera. To be honest, when there’s five of you plus dog, any form of team effort goes down well with the neighbours, but if you’ve got any ideas for 2019, you know who to call…
